MA/Post Graduate Diploma in Housing Studies
This course is designed for those people working in housing organisations wishing to develop their knowledge, understanding, and critical skills to enhance their professional practice and gain membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
The Course content includes examining the changing role of the housing profession; new directions in housing policy; housing governance; housing law; housing economics and finance; neighbourhood management and renewal; legal and non legal remedies for resolving conflict; housing in a European context; housing and urban development; and housing research practice.

The Course consists of 8 taught units (1 double unit) for the Postgraduate Diploma, with the development of a Dissertation (4 units) by research for the award of Master of Arts.

Field Trips and Study Visits
An important and stimulating feature of the Course is a 5 day residential study visit to The Netherlands as part of the Comparative Housing unit. This is to develop a critical understanding of current housing and regeneration policy and practice in a European context, and reflect on the UK housing system and their own practice. There is currently an additional fee for the visit of £550. Other units may include day visits to sites and organisations as part of the teaching programme. The Neighbourhood Management and Renewal option includes a 3 day residential Field Study visit (most recently to Liverpool, previously to Newcastle) which has an additional fee of £165 (as at 2007)
E-learning
Full use is made of Blackboard , a web-based Interactive Virtual Learning Environment, which allows students access to course materials online, and engage in scholarly discussion with staff and other students as part of each unit.
APEX
(CIH Accreditation of Professional Experience ) All units satisfy the academic requirements for professional membership and are accredited by the CIH. Additionally the course is recognised by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
Entry Qualifications
A first degree in a cognate discipline and
At least 2 years experience in a housing organisation
Applications are welcomed from those with substantial housing experience at a senior level but with non-cognate qualifications.
