Details on the access arrangements we offer to Visitors

If you are a former student of London South Bank University you can join the LSBU Alumni Association. This gives you free access to the Library and the Learning Resources Centre. There is also a paid membership (£25 per year) which will allow you to borrow up to 5 main collection items at a time.

You can find full details of LSBU Association benefits/conditions and details of how to join here.

If you are a student at another UK university check whether your institution is a member of the SCONUL Access Scheme. Joining the scheme will allow you to access our library. Postgraduates, Part-time Undergraduates, Distance Learners, and Academic Staff can gain borrowing rights of up to 4 main collection books.

Full time Undergraduates can access us on a Reference Only basis. You'll need to apply online via the SCONUL access website. Please bring your email of approval from the scheme and your student ID

During vacation periods you can access LSBU library for reference only using only your ID from your home university under the Sconul Vacation Access scheme.

Please note: initial access and registration for incoming users is only available during library helpdesk opening hours, and not during our 'security only' evening extended opening. Once we've given you an ID card for the Library you can come in any time we are open but you must bring that ID card with you to be admitted

Members of CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) are eligible for reference access on production of CIBSE membership card

Members of CTH (Confederation of Tourism & Hospitality) and OTHM (Organisation of Tourism & Hospitality Management) are eligible for reference only access on production of their CTH/OTHM cards. Please bring a passport photo on your first visit so an LSBU reference access card can be made up for you.

M25 Access & Borrowing Scheme - Members of the following institutions should ask their home institution about joining the M25 scheme - British Library, British Museum, Imperial War Museum, Natural History Museum, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Royal Society of Chemistry, Victoria and Albert Museum, Wiener Library Institute of Contemporary History, Wellcome Library

On production of an M25 card and a passport photo we will grant access and borrowing rights for up to 4 books from our main collection.

NHS Trust staff -  can access our libraries at Havering only. You will need to collect a form from the library helpdesk and have it signed by your manager. You will also need to bring your NHS ID, proof of address, and a passport size photo

Participating trusts - Barking and Dagenham PCT, Barking, Havering and Redbridge PCT; Havering PCT; Waltham Forest PCT; North East London Mental Health Trust; Whipps Cross Univ. Hospital Trust.

Reference access to all other visitors is at the discretion of the site manager. Requests for access must be made in advance. Due to pressure on our resources/space from LSBU students and those from other Universities access to members of the public is limited - please give us as much detail as you can of your particular educational need to use our library. You can make your application using the form in the 'External access' section on this page

Please note: initial access and registration for incoming users is only available during library helpdesk opening hours, and not during our 'security only' evening extended opening. Once we've given you an ID card for the Library you can come in any time we are open but you must bring that ID card with you to be admitted

Computer Access

Please note that due to licensing restrictions on our electronic resources only current LSBU students/staff and members of the Access LSBU scheme can use the PCs in the LSBU libraries.

Visiting users may access the library catalogue terminals and the free electronic resources available via them.

LSBU Association members can access PCs in the Learning Resources Centre.

Students from other Universities who are members of the EDUROAM scheme will be able to access Wi-Fi at LSBU - ask at your own University about joining the scheme

Alternative access to e-resources for LSBU Alumni

Due to licensing restrictions we are unfortunately unable to offer access to some of our resources for LSBU alumni. These include Business and Law e-resources such as Mintel and Lexis.

However you can access these e-resources from other libraries such as the British Library or Westminster Reference Library

Some general e-journal titles are also available from the London Libraries Consortium via your public library. Here is their eLibrary.
