needs.
Depending on what training you need, when you
want it, how much time you have to invest, and
your personal learning style, you and your team
can take advantage the flexible IT skill development
opportunities that we offer.
Scheduled IT training courses
Each semester, we offer a programme of
IT training courses in all the core applications
used at LSBU.
Online IT training courses and materials
The “Staff IT Training Materials”
site on the LSBU Blackboard system contains a
wealth of downloadable and online IT training
material and courses. There are a range of other
IT related e-learning materials on a variey of
subjects.

Open learning
The Open Learning sessions are flexible.
Attend as many or as few as you need. They can
be used for a number of activities:
• Work at your own pace with tutorial materials,
supported by a tutor
• Pre and post course support
• Problem solving help
• Training when you want it
• One to one QLs training
• Preparation for ECDL
• Taking ECDL tests (you must book a place
one week in advance for this)
Open Learning session take place most Tuesdays,
9.30 - 12.30 in EL318 Eileen House.
Ring the SDU (6082 or 6871) to check it is on
before attending.

Self paced IT training courses
We have a number of courses that can be taken
at any time. You can book time to work with self
teach materials in a quiet area of the IT training
centre at times to suit you. A member of staff
will be available if you need help. The courses
available include:

• Excel 2003 levels 1, 2 , 3 & VBA
• Outlook 2003 levels 1 & 2
• PowerPoint 2003 levels 1 & 2
• Word 2003 levels 1, 2 & 3

One-to-one IT support
If you need one-to-one coaching on any of the
MS office applications to do a specific task,
or need extra support before taking an ECDL test,
we can arrange a short one to one training session

European Computer Driving Licence
If you are registered to take the ECDL IT literacy
qualification (see www.lsbu.ac.uk/sdu/ecdl.html
for details), you can arrange to take the tests
in the Eileen House at times to suit you. Contact

Booking external IT training courses
If you need to attend an IT training activity
that the ITTC does not offer you can contact us
to discuss which external training suppliers might
be the best to use. Funding for external courses
can be applied for using an External Short Course
Application Form.
